Student records are confidential and are released only to appropriate faculty and administrative offices. UB can release student records to any other college, prospective employer, or agency only with the written permission of the student. Student addresses or telephone numbers are released by the university unless the student has requested the non-release of directory information by submitting a Request for Directory and Information Release/Non-Release (PDF).
The Office of the Registrar is the trustee office for certain kinds of student information. Students are the “owners” of information collected about them and can change almost all of it at any time.
Here are the categories of information we collect, maintain, and provide to authorized users:
We solicit from you other pieces of information such as ethnicity, religion, expected date of graduation, intended major (undergrads), and gender. If you would like to know what we have recorded, please visit our office at 1Capen.
Student systems also record service indicators/holds, which are used to stop a student from enrolling or, in some cases, receiving services until the reason for the service indicator/hold has been resolved with the office that placed it.
